SMO Celebrates 90 Years – New CD and Anniversary Concerts

In 2022 it will be 90 years since the Sydney Mandolin Orchestra was established by Phil Skinner – then under the moniker ‘Phil Skinner’s Neapolitan Orchestra’. To celebrate we will be putting on a big anniversary concert in November (exact date TBA). As part of the concert we are commissioning a new piece of music Sydney’s own mandolin virtuoso and composer – Stephen Lalor. Having a long history with the orchestra himself the piece will draw from some iconic pieces as well as providing some exciting new melodies.

During 2021 and 22 The orchestra has also been working hard on a new CD which was made possible by a incredibly successful crowdfunding campaign. We raised more than twice the money that we asked for! The CD has finished recording (which proved to be challenging due to various lockdowns) and is now in the final stages of being edited and mastered. We are hoping to release at the end of 2022.
